Winter landscapes in Ottawa | The Rideau Falls

A winter picture of the Rideau Falls from that vantage point of Green Island in Ottawa, Ontario. This “big picture” was taken under the presence of a two o’clock sun with my tilt-shift lens. The “frostbite weather” outside was hovering around minus 23 degrees Celsius, but “it felt like” minus 34 degrees Celsius with the wind blowing a brisk 17 km/h – ah, my warm love for extreme photography at its best!

This picture places an emphasis on the ice formations using a High Dynamic Range (HDR) effect, which was created using a bracketed series of pictures taken simultaneously at seven different exposure levels. Featured in the background are several Federal Government of Canada buildings, including the head offices for Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Research Council of Canada.
