This image was taken at Canada's National Military Cemetery, which is a special part of Ottawa's Beechwood Cemetery. It shows a howitzer in the foreground and row upon row of military headstones in the background. To learn more about this cemetery, click here.
This image is a composite. It is something I created to remember the men and women who laid their lives down in the name of freedom and dignity. Clearly, this serene and final resting place does not look like this, and will never look like this, but behind those white headstones in a solemn area of town I can see the pain and suffering those people endured before they fell. I can see and feel the intensity of the fires raging around them. I can see people valiantly marching forward - inch by inch down a dark road in human history - to ultimately create a brighter future. I can see them doing this and wishing never again. Lest we forget.
